Explore the roots of yoga & meditation

I returned to Kathmandu Meditation Home for a second time after my first visit in 2023 as felt a strong need to come back! This time I attended a 3-week meditation teacher training course during October (Very pleased to be accredited!)

Sujit and Dinesh are true masters – knowledgeable, relaxed, and deeply skilled. The food, prepared by the wonderful Didi, is wholesome, organic, and locally sourced. Accommodation is clean and lovely – I had the pleasure of an ensuite and amazing views of Kathmandu. The people you meet here are amazing too. But these aren’t the main reasons to come here!

If you want to explore the roots of yoga and meditation, the philosophy classes are incredibly thought-provoking and fascinating. The course is intensive, with early wake-ups, set meal times, and structured classes but in the best way. I arrived 18 days ago as a smoker and have since quit! The setting and location is picturesque. There are 150 different species of birds in the Himalayas and you are visited by them every day. But the true jewels are in the practices themselves, in feeling different in yourself – more grounded, more able to face life and all its challenges, more curious about the world, the universe and what lies beyond. Honestly it’s hard to put it all into words! What you’ll find is what you pick up here will stick with you for good. There’s a reason this school has been so highly rated. ✨

With heartfelt thanks to the teachers, students, groundskeeper, and chef. 🙏🏻❤️

Oh my god, I love this place so much!

Oh my god, I love this place so much! I came for the 100-hour meditation teacher training and loved it so much that I stayed longer to complete the three-week, 150-hour course. Before I came, I couldn’t sit without music or a guide for very long at all, but now I can sit in silence for an hour, which I find so freeing. I’m also much better at listening to and accepting whatever is going on in my body or emotions without trying to ignore or push away what is unpleasant. Overall, I feel stronger and more grounded in myself. And I can guide meditation too! Everyone I’ve met here has been so beautiful, the teachers are amazing, and I’ve made friends I hope to keep forever. The chef, Rita, is delightful and cooks such fresh, delicious food. I felt so at home. The location by the national park is buzzing with life—so many butterflies, and I even saw a baboon!

More than I could have imagined.

More than I could have imagined.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Kathmandu Meditation Home and the people there who made it feel like home again and again over the past 4.5 months (I often returned here during my time in Nepal). I found the school for the first time in August- hoping to find spiritual guidance and deepen into my meditation practice in a serene, welcoming atmosphere. This center was that and so much more. The teachings and guidance I received from Master Ji (Sujit) were more than I could have imagined. When it comes to finding a spiritual teacher, finding one who truly embodies the wisdom they’re sharing is often rare, but so paramount. Sujit is the living, breathing wisdom that he shares. He inspired me to engage in my self-practice to a degree that I couldn’t have understood previously. He showed me the importance of self-observation and discipline along the path- a path which leads toward liberation where the simple cravings and struggles dissipate when you learn to sit and observe them long enough. He encourages his students through his own example- and that, to me, is the mark of an incredible teacher. His teachings on spiritual philosophy were key for me- and his ability to teach complex, classical texts and ideas and synthesize their wisdom for his students, often speaking straight from his heart, was beautiful and inspiring to say the least. Thank you, dear Sujit.

Brother Dinesh was always welcoming and attentive, ensuring we had what we needed and that our stay was comfortable. He led our group in classical Hatha yoga practices- straight from the original texts, meditation practices, and at times, spiritual philosophy. Dinesh is a serious practitioner who continues to refine his own practice and cater his teaching to the needs of his students. He makes himself available for meals and to answer the questions of his students whenever needed. Thank you, bai.

The school and retreat center would not be complete without Didi Rita (Auntie) and Uncle. What truly makes this place feel like a home away from home is the care of Auntie and Uncle. Auntie is an INCREDIBLE chef who prepares meals with love and takes pride in serving delicious, healthy, vegetarian food. She is loving and cares for guests as if they were family- especially if you take interest in connecting with her a bit. I used my broken Nepali and she used the English she had- but mainly we communicated from our hearts- which surpasses any linguistic ability. Uncle often takes a background role, but he is there to maintain the facilities, run errands, help guests with bags, and always with a loving smile to greet you. Without the need for language, you can see into this man’s soul, and you know he has a beautiful heart.

After several programs and returning month after month, I completed 300 hours of meditation teacher training, 50 hours restorative yoga teacher training & singing bowls (with their sister school onsite PRAGYA Yoga), and an internship to practice teaching my new skills and help develop curriculum for the courses (I have 15 years of experience in curriculum and education). It was a beautiful and supportive way to gain confidence and learn from incredibly knowledgeable teachers.

So, if you’re considering a retreat or a training here, I’d say you’re one of the lucky ones. You’ve found a hidden gem-Congratulations. Allow yourself patience as the teachings sink into your bones and transform your being. Good luck to you. Tashi Delek. 🙏
